PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
Student Pick-up Reminders
Parents/Guardians,
Recently we've had several students waiting for rides far beyond the time they are suppose to be picked up. Some are waiting between the front doors, and some are wandering the hallways.
All students must be picked up by 3:05PM (at the latest) or sign into the Rock by 3:05.
- Students must wait outside for their ride (students are only allowed to wait between the front doors when the weather is too cold - this space is not to be used as a long-term waiting area.)
- If students won't be picked up by 3:05 then they need to be signed up for the Rock after school program OR a ride needs to be pre-arranged for them to be picked up by 3:05PM. If you sign them up for the Rock then they need to sign in immediately after school in the cafeteria and be picked up out back by 6:00PM. They will stay in the cafeteria, and won't be allowed to go out into the school.
- Students cannot wait in the school for home basketball games. They must be picked up by 3:05 and are welcome to come back for the game.
We appreciate your help and ask that you also talk to your student(s) about this as well.

February 11th Count Day Information!
February 11th is our second count day of the school year. Count days are the first Wednesday of October and the second Wednesday of February every year.
Showing up to school every day is one of the most powerful ways a student can stay on track, but there are a few specific dates on the calendar—known as Student Count Days—where attendance carries an even greater impact.
The Impact of Count Days
While learning happens every day, Student Count Days are critical for the "behind-the-scenes" health of a school. On these days, the state records official enrollment numbers to determine the amount of funding the school district receives.
- Resources for Students: This funding directly pays for classroom technology, textbooks, and extracurricular programs.
- Support Staff: Count day numbers help determine the budget for essential staff, including counselors, nurses, and specialized tutors.
- Facility Upkeep: From heating and cooling to playground safety, the "per-pupil" funding ensured on count days keeps the school environment safe and functional.
When a student is absent on count day without a valid excuse, it can result in a loss of thousands of dollars in funding that would have otherwise supported their education. By being present, students aren't just showing up for a lesson—they are ensuring their school has the resources it needs to help them thrive throughout the year.
SUNSHINE CART!
The VPA is planning another staff sunshine cart for Friday, February 13th for a little Valentine's Day treat!
If you're unfamiliar with the sunshine cart, a couple times a year we like to take a cart full of goodies to each classroom to offer a drink, granola bars, donuts, etc just as a little pick-me-up for all of our amazing staff!
If anyone would like to donate any drinks, here is some of the staffs favorites we could use! THANK YOU!

Attention Parents/Guardians of 7th Grade and/or New Students:
- Michigan law requires that all students be immunized against vaccine preventable diseases to attend Northeast Middle School. When a student enters 7th grade, the immunization requirements change. Please be sure your student is up-to-date. The deadline for immunizations was November 1, 2025, but appointments with the Health Department become increasingly difficult to secure as the deadline approaches. The typical immunization update requirements for 7th graders include a booster to Tdap and the meningitis vaccine.
- NOTE: Any parent/guardian who wants to claim a non medical waiver will need to receive education regarding the benefits of vaccination and the risks of disease from a county health department before obtaining the certified nonmedical waiver form through the Local Health Department. The new rule requires the use of the State of Michigan non medical waiver form dated January 1, 2017.
MICHIGAN SECURE STORAGE LAW
In an effort to educate parents and families about the importance of safe firearm storage, Michigan Schools are required to share informational resources. The new secure storage law requires firearm owners to securely store firearms wherever minors are present or likely to be present. The information below explains the requirements of the secure storage law in Michigan. Specific resources required to be sent home to parents and caregivers include:
GO GUARDIAN
Parents will be notified of all Go-Guardian alerts outside of school hours. This will alert parents of any concerning technology behavior for their student.
OFFICE DROP OFFS
As always, please encourage your students to have everything they need before leaving for school each day. If they do forget something feel free to drop it off in the office. If your student contacts you and asks you to bring an item, please let them know you will bring it and that they should check the office between classes or before lunch.
FINES FOR CHROMEBOOK LABELS
If either the asset tag from the back or the large student information tag from the front is removed or defaced a $5 fine will be issued for each label. If either label is peeling or fading, report this to the office or library so a replacement can be ordered.
THE ROCK AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The ROCK is a productive after-school program that instills confidence and a sense of belonging. They also provide mentorship, tutors, games, activities, food, and a safe place for teens. This is a drop-in program that runs from 2:50-6:00 PM; meaning your student can leave when it makes sense for your family. All participants must be pre-registered.
Snow Days: The ROCK will NOT be open.
