VFF April Announcement

April is the month to focus on respect.  Each one of us likes to be treated well.  Respect is an important way of being kind and good to other people and yourself.  Respect means not making fun of others.  Respect means thinking of how somebody else feels.  You show respect by using good eye contact, using a kind tone, not calling people mean names and caring enough about yourself that you don’t do things you know can hurt you.   Think about how you treat others or yourself.  So, on Tuesday, April 19th we will all wear purple to remind us to compliment others.  Say something nice to someone today.  Do something nice for yourself today.

Yearbook News

Don't miss out on your chance to purchase the Northeast Yearbook!  The deadline to purchase is April 18.  If you are not sure if you already purchased one, check the list on the window by the office.

Last day procedures

On the last day of school, the front and rear parking lots will be barricaded, and monitored by staff, for the purpose of allowing ONLY BUSSES in the drop off/pick up area.  Students are asked to leave school property immediately following dismissal on Friday May 27th.  Parents should plan to pick-up their student(s) at the road, or at another predetermined location.  Students will not be allowed to return to the building after school is dismissed on Friday.  If there are any forgotten items, or materials to return to the school, this should take place the next week during regular office hours (8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.).

  • If students bring a lunch, please use a brown paper sack

  • No other bags etc. will be allowed on the last day unless absolutely unavoidable/necessary.  If a bag is absolutely necessary, label it with the student name and 6th hour classroom number.  All bags will be collected at the entrances to the building in the morning.  These items will be stored in the office and delivered to sixth hour classrooms at the end of the day.

  • 6th hour teachers will escort students out of the building at the conclusion of the day.  Students are not allowed to re-enter the building until the following week to take care of lost/forgotten materials.

  • 6th grade students will be escorted out about 10 minutes early, at approximately 2:40 p.m.

  • Report cards will be held until all overdue materials/fines are resolved.

Attention Parents of current 6th grade student

Michigan law requires that all students be immunized against vaccine preventable diseases to attend Northeast Middle School.  When a student enters 7th grade, the Immunization requirements increase.  Please be sure your student is up-to-date.  The deadline for immunizations is November 1st, but appointments with the Health Department become increasingly difficult to secure as the deadline approaches.  We recommend scheduling over summer break.  The typical Immunization update requirements for 7th graders include a booster to Tdap and the meningitis vaccine.

NOTE: Any parent/guardian who wants to claim a non medical waiver will need to receive education regarding the benefits of vaccination and the risks of disease from a county health department before obtaining the certified nonmedical waiver form through the Local Health Department. The new rule requires the use of the State of Michigan non medical waiver form dated January 1, 2017.

Covid Information Needed

If your student is exposed to or diagnosed with Covid, please call the Northeast office (989-923-5772) to let us know.  We need this information to ensure your student is medically excused during their absence.

Student sign in/out & Attendance did you know?

  • If your student will be absent for the day, please call the attendance line so that your student is excused.  The number is: (989)923-5778

  • You do not need to call the attendance line if your student will be late or leaving early.  Signing them in/out will excuse them.

  • If a student arrives or leaves during school hours, they must sign in/out.  Without a parent/guardian signature or medical excuse, an absence will be considered unexcused.

  • If a student is 5 minutes or less late, they are TARDY.  A tardy can not be excused.

  • If a student is 5 minutes or more late, they are ABSENCE and can be excused by a parent/guardian or medical excuse.

  • If you sign your student out for an appointment then bring them back to school, you do not need to come in with them.  They can sign in on the same line where you signed them out.

Morning Drop-Off

If you drop your child off at the back area near the cafeteria please remember the following:

  • The left lane is a moving lane. Do not stop and drop off your student while in the left lane.

  • The right lane is the drop-off lane.  Pull over and stop and let your student out.  Please DO NOT park and exit your vehicle in this lane.  The area needs to be reserved for drop-offs.  If you need to enter the building, please use one of the parking spaces along the tennis courts, between Northeast and Plymouth, or at the front of the building.

Office Drop-Offs

As always, please encourage your students to have everything they need before leaving for school each day. If they do forget something feel free to drop it off in the office.  If your student contacts you and asks you to bring an item, please let them know you will bring it and that they should check the office between classes or before lunch.  The office does not call classrooms for forgotten items, but will email your student's teachers if needed. This could result in a delivery delay.
